Paolozzi Mosaics, Tottenham Court Road Underground Station

Eduardo Paolozzi mosaic at Tottenham Court Road Underground Station, commissioned by Transport for London

Orbis have been sub-contracted by JW Restoration Ltd to design a system and project manage the removal and re installation of the largest Eduardo Paolozzi mosaic at Tottenham Court Road Underground Station, commissioned by Transport for London. The mosaic is currently located in the old entrance on Oxford Street which is scheduled for demolition as part of the redevelopment works to make way for CrossRail.

We will be designing a system to slice the 3 x 2m mosaic off the wall with a facing frame, move it down 7 stories to platform level in the new interchange tunnel, and install the mosaic in one piece. We anticipate starting the job next month.

There has been a great deal of publicity about this project and we are glad that there has finally been a decision to save these wonderful pieces.
