Orbis Conservation offer a comprehensive service in the conservation and restoration of all three dimensional art works and architecture. Founded in 2013 by Hans Thompson and Maxwell Malden, Orbis are a small team driven by a thorough commitment to the preservation of cultural heritage and to maintaining the skills of previous craftsmen and artists. Orbis Conservation Ltd. specialises in a wide range of disciplines including stone and wood carving, decorative surfaces, condition surveys, conservation science and contemporary art. Combined with a thorough understanding and respect for Art History, we are fully equipped to treat objects from past to present. Orbis also offer professional art handling and installation services.

Services

Conservation and Restoration of Artworks – Comprehensive conservation treatments of all three dimensional art, from surface cleaning to full reconstruction of fragmented objects.

Condition Assessments/Reports – for international travel of art works and insurance valuations

Exhibition Conservation – on-site condition checking, documentation and treatment for new exhibitions and loan items

Collections Care – ongoing maintenance and condition assessments, advice on packing packing, handling, transportation, and display of works.

Fine Art Fabrication – design and consultancy for new artworks including material considerations and advice in collaboration with artists, foundations, and estates.

Mountmaking – we provide museum-grade mounts for art and artefacts, tailored to any specification. Orbis offer consultation on mount formations and display options, assess templating and fabrication, and prepare each piece for mounting. On-site installation is carried out by a skilled team of art technicians, using conservation-minded presentation and display.

Large Viewing Room – for photography and viewings of artworks – can accommodate works up to 3.5m high by 4.5m wide

Scientific Analysis – including FTIR spectroscopy, microscopy, and paint analysis.

Storage – a large, dedicated storage unit with climate control, protected by full CCTV, fire and security alarm provisions. We can accommodate both long term and short term storage.
